Summer 2021 Session Begins JUNE 14th for Sierra College classes!
Get ready for your Sierra College course(s):
- Log in to your My Sierra and look up your class schedule to verify your enrollment
- Check your email for a welcome letter from your instructor (some classes)
- Go to the Canvas link (located within My Sierra or from the homepage of www.sierracollege.edu)
- Canvas is where your class will “live”
- If your course is already open, review the site and your course syllabus
- On the first day of classes (June 14th) make sure you log in to your Canvas and review the welcome letter, syllabus and learn to navigate the class by clicking on all of the links to see where the instructor has posted information
- Notice the calendar feature. If your instructor uses the calendar this is a nice way to keep track of due dates
If you are still on a waitlist on the first day of classes:
- Email the professor of the course to request an add code
- Tell them your name and which course you want to add including the CRN (course reference number)
- The instructor may give you an add code or they may say to check back in a couple of days.
- Once you receive an add code you must go into your My Sierra to officially register for the course. Once you click on the course you will be prompted to enter the CRN to register.
I’ve included some tutorials here that you might find useful in navigating Canvas as well as the waitlist.

A couple pieces of advice… things I and other students have found useful in an online class:
- Set up scheduled class times for yourself to do your work. It’s easy to forget when it’s online. Out of sight, out of mind. If you designate a couple of times during each week that are “class time” for yourself it helps to keep some structure.
- Read a few discussion posts from classmates every day or at least every other day if you can. Most instructors will post a discussion board post question or two each week based on the reading or material. Students are often asked to respond to the post and respond to classmates to engage in discussion. In my first online class I started just checking in to do this twice a week and it was A LOT to read all at once. Of course, it depends on how engaged the students are and how much they reply to posts. I found it easier to log in every day even if it was just for 15-20 minutes to read the most recent posts. If there was something I wanted to comment on I would. If not, I’d mark those posts as read and pick up where I left off the next time I logged in.
Have a great summer!
