Ghidotti/ SAEL Sports: Boys’ Volleyball- Message from Coach Gary Frankel

Come One, Come All….
Time for recruiting for the SAEL-Ghidotti Boys Volleyball Team Spring 2020.
Our Girls team set a high standard for play in the Fall – our first season as an official high school team.   Looking forward to the Boys doing just as well (and having as much fun).
Looking for those of you that have played on organized teams before – club, high school, middle school.   And looking for those who are good athletes and want to learn to be good volleyball players (looking at you basketball players that I’ve been watching :-)).  And anyone else who is passionate about volleyball, but hasn’t gotten to play serious team ball.
Practice starts Feb 10 with matches starting about 2 weeks later.   We will play both home and away games.     Practice will be at the Sierra College gym where we have a nice setup with 2 nets.
We will work on basic skills and improvement, but also how to play successfully as a team, where to be, how to work together as a team.    Volleyball is very much a team sport and no one player can carry a team – takes passing and setting and ball control and blocking and serving as well as the fun of hitting hard!!!

We play against other high schools in the area – similar size schools, but some of which have had programs for years.  Our goal is to establish a long term program that becomes stronger each year as we have more players with serious experience.

I’ve played serious volleyball for 30+ years – both sand and indoor at several levels.   I coached middle school for several years although this is the first year coaching high school.    My focus for a long time is how a team is stronger than its players.  I’ve run many teams where we won leagues with less raw talent, but a sharp understanding of how to play well together.

Hello Everyone,

Soccer: I’m happy to say we had our first soccer practice yesterday. Although it was great to get players and coaches together, we need more players in order to yield a team this season.
